Nagpur: Continuing its anti-drug and anti-tobacco enforcement drive under the “Operation Thunder – Let Us Unite to Build a Drug-Free Society” campaign, Nagpur City Police registered a case against an illegal hookah parlour operator in the Kapil Nagar police station area.
According to police, the action was carried out on the night of May 10 and early hours of May 11, 2026, following specific information received by Kapil Nagar Police. A raid was conducted in the presence of panch witnesses at Hotel Rangla Punjab located on Nari Road near Tekanaka in Nagpur.
During the raid, police found three men allegedly smoking hookah from a glass pot inside a room on the premises. The accused were identified as Jaspreet Singh Guruprit Singh Tuli (27), a resident of Buddha Nagar, Pachpaoli; Aditya Mallik Ingle (26), a resident near Shriram Bakery, Zingabai Takli; and Shadab Salim Sheikh (29), a resident of Takiya Diwanshah, Mominpura, Nagpur.
During interrogation, police identified the alleged hookah parlour operator as Sohail Khan Firoz Khan (22), a resident of Navin Vasti Teka near Jabbar Pehelwan’s house in Pachpaoli, Nagpur.
Police stated that the accused was illegally operating the hookah service without a licence and was allegedly supplying banned tobacco-based hookah products to customers for financial gain. The police seized hookah-related material worth Rs 10,150, including flavoured tobacco, hookah pots, rubber pipes and other accessories used in the parlour.
A case has been registered at Kapil Nagar Police Station under Sections 4, 6, 7, 8, 20, 21 and 24 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Sandeep Pakhale, Assistant Commissioner of Police Satyaveer Bandiwar and Senior Police Inspector Satish Ade. The action was executed by PSI Yogesh Nalte along with police personnel Shahzad Sheikh, Nilesh Pawar, Ritesh Verma and Sanju Bhushanam.
