Holi Crackdown: Nagpur Sees 310 Drunk Driving Cases, 5,020 Traffic Violations

Nagpur: Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal has launched the ‘Mission Jeevan Raksha’ initiative to reduce road accidents in the city. As part of this campaign, police personnel conducted a special drive on Holi against drunk driving and traffic violations on March 13 and 14, 2025, with multiple nakabandi (checkpoints) and deployment of special ‘Drunk and Drive’ (DD) teams across the city.


Following the directives, the Traffic Police Department set up 40 checkpoints from the evening of March 13 to late at night on March 14, 2025. During this period, DD teams were deployed in various locations to identify and take strict action against individuals caught driving under the influence of alcohol.


Action Taken Against Violators:


During the two-day drive, a total of 310 cases of drunk driving and 5,020 traffic violations were registered across different zones in Nagpur.


Among them, MIDC recorded 32 cases of drunk driving and 470 traffic violations, while Sonegaon reported 24 drunk driving cases and 546 traffic violations. In the Sadar area, 17 individuals were caught for drunk driving, with 329 traffic violations recorded, whereas Sitabuldi witnessed 27 drunk driving cases and 355 traffic violations.


In other zones, Cotton Market registered 33 drunk driving cases and 359 traffic violations, while Lakadganj reported 29 and 653, respectively. The Ajni area recorded the highest number of drunk driving cases at 53, along with 603 traffic violations. Similarly, Sakkardara saw 24 cases of drunk driving and 577 violationsIndora recorded 42 and 475, and Kamptee reported 29 cases of drunk driving along with 653 traffic violations.


Strict Action Against Drunk Driving to Continue:


The traffic police have made it clear that strict action against drunk driving will continue in the coming days. Motorists caught driving under the influence will face a fine of ₹10,000. Additionally, those violating other traffic regulations will be penalized as part of the ongoing crackdown to ensure road safety.


Citizens Urged to Report Traffic Violations:


The Nagpur Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules and report any violations. Residents can lodge complaints regarding traffic issues via the ‘Traffic Mitra’ WhatsApp helpline at 8976897698. Complaints should include photos, time, and location details to facilitate swift action.


The ‘Traffic Mitra’ initiative aims to improve traffic management in Nagpur, and authorities seek public cooperation to ensure smoother and safer roads for all.
