Nagpur: In a significant move to enhance the ease of doing business, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has streamlined the registration process for Local Cable Operators (LCOs) by making it entirely online. Under the amended Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, the MIB has become the registering authority for LCOs, replacing the earlier manual system.

Starting today, LCO registrations will be processed through the Broadcast Seva Portal (www.new.broadcastseva.gov.in), enabling operators to obtain their registration certificates in real-time upon successful verification of essential documents like Aadhaar, PAN, CIN, and DIN.

Key Features of the Amended LCO Registration Process:

1. Fully Online Registration: LCOs can now apply for new registrations or renewals directly on the Broadcast Seva Portal.

2. Extended Validity: Registrations will now be valid for a period of five years and will allow operations across the entire territory of India.

3. Simplified Fee Structure: The processing fee for registration or renewal is set at just ₹5,000.

4. Appeal Provision: Operators can appeal any denial of registration or renewal within 30 days to the Appellate Authority, Under Secretary (DAS).

5. Mandatory Renewal Timeline: Applications for renewal must be submitted at least 90 days before the current registration expires.

6. Transition of Pending Applications: Applications currently pending at post offices must be withdrawn and resubmitted on the portal.

Real-Time Registration and Simplified Operations:

Previously, LCO registration was conducted manually through local head post offices, a process that was time-consuming and restricted operators to specific areas. The new system eliminates these inefficiencies, allowing LCOs to operate seamlessly across the country.

Pending applications at post offices will no longer be processed and must be resubmitted online. Existing registrations will remain valid for the duration specified in the certificate, and those nearing expiration must apply for renewal immediately.

For assistance, LCOs can contact the helpline number provided on the Broadcast Seva Portal or email lco.das[at]gov[dot]in.

Commitment to Ease of Doing Business:

This modernization aligns with the Government of India’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business. By digitizing the registration process, the Ministry ensures faster approvals and a more efficient system for LCOs nationwide.
