Nagpur: Bajaj Nagar police have apprehended a Delhi-based couple for defrauding a local businessman and absconding with 38 laptops worth ₹15.70 lakh.

According to police the accused, identified as Pawan Kumar Bir Singh (36) from Mayur Vihar, Delhi, and Anita Sharma Vinod Kumar (48) from Sector 119, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, posed as entrepreneurs to execute the crime.

The duo approached Sandeep Rane, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, seeking to rent a commercial space near Bal Jagat in Bajaj Nagar. Claiming to operate a Delhi-based company, TAWC, they stated their intention to establish a business for AutoCAD work. After securing the rental, they expressed the need for 70 used but fully functional laptops.

Rane introduced them to his acquaintance, Ajay Mate, who runs C.S. Engineering, a computer business in Manewada. The accused initially procured 10 laptops—eight old and two new—from Ajay on November 18, with a promise of immediate payment, which they failed to deliver.

Later, they requested 28 brand-new Dell laptops, which Ajay supplied on October 21. Assuring payment by evening, the couple fled Nagpur with the laptops, leaving Ajay defrauded.

Ajay lodged a complaint with Bajaj Nagar police, who registered a case of fraud and arrested the accused.
