Nagpur: The chill continues to dominate Nagpur’s weather as cold winds from the north intensify the winter effect in the city. On Thursday, the city reported a slight increase of 0.1°C in the minimum temperature, which stood at 11.8°C. However, this still marked a dip of three degrees below the normal temperature, causing noticeable discomfort from sunset onward.
The cold weather has spread throughout Vidarbha, with the exception of Amravati, which recorded a minimum temperature of 14.9°C. Both Bhandara and Chandrapur reported 14°C, while other districts, including Wardha (12.4°C), Gadchiroli (13°C), Buldhana (13.3°C), and Akola (12.8°C), also experienced temperatures below 14°C.
The Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) has indicated that this cold spell will persist through the remainder of November. The significant drop in temperature is attributed to the influence of jet stream winds over the northeastern states, as well as snowfall in regions like Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, dense fog is causing disruptions across northern states such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Odisha.
Brahmapuri was reported as the coldest location in Vidarbha, with a minimum temperature of 11°C, followed by Gondia at 11.4°C and Nagpur at 11.8°C.
Meanwhile, a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal is bringing heavy rainfall and storms to Tamil Nadu and other parts of southern India. Once the rains subside, temperatures in South India are also expected to drop further.
The RMC has warned that the cold conditions will persist, with temperatures likely to remain low across the region in the coming days.
