Nagpur: The Social Security Branch (SSB) of Nagpur Crime Branch apprehended a woman, involved in prostitution racket, who had been absconding for over three years. The accused, Shilpa Suresh Havre (22), was arrested on Thursday, November 28, after a covert operation by SSB officers.
The case dates back to July 14, 2021, when the accused Munni Bai Maksooq Pathan (45), along with her accomplice Shilpa Suresh Havre (22), allegedly lured a minor girl into the illegal sex trade under the pretense of offering her money. The two women, acting in concert, provided a space at Munni Bai’s residence and arranged customers, collecting money from them in exchange for illicit services.
The incident came to light after Sub-Inspector Rekha Sankpal filed a report with Ajni Police Station, which led to a case being registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 370(A) (trafficking), 372 (selling minors), and 376(2)(j) (rape). Additionally, sections of the POCSO Act and the PITA Act were invoked.
On July 15, 2021, Munni Bai was arrested, but Shilpa remained at large. Munni Bai’s trial began, and the court has sentenced her. A charge sheet was filed against Shilpa, who had been evading the law since the crime was committed.
After receiving a reliable tip-off from a confidential informant, the police conducted a successful trap operation in Ambazari area on November 28, 2024, and apprehended Shilpa. Upon interrogation, she confessed to her involvement in the crime. She has been handed over to the Ajni Police for further legal action.
