Nagpur: A total of 92 newly appointed Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) selected on merit from Batch No. 124 of the Maharashtra Police Academy, Nashik, officially joined the Nagpur Police Commissionerate following their convocation on December 20, 2024. A special welcome and guidance session was conducted for them by Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal on December 26 at the Police Bhavan Conference Hall.
These PSIs, who underwent 13 months of rigorous training after clearing the competitive Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination, represent the top-ranking candidates from a batch of 620 trainees. The session aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and guide the recruits as they begin their careers in law enforcement.
“PSIs Are the Backbone of Policing”: Dr. Singal
Addressing the PSIs, Dr. Singal emphasized the pivotal role they play in resolving public complaints, monitoring activities, guiding citizens, and conducting investigations under senior officers’ supervision.
He highlighted their unique position as the first batch in Maharashtra trained in the Bhartiya Nyaya Sahinta, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sahinta, and Bhartiya Saksha Adhiniyam, entrusting them with the responsibility of implementing these laws at the grassroots level.
Dr. Singal also stressed the importance of fieldwork, encouraging them to maintain good communication with seniors, view challenges as opportunities, and adapt positively to transfers.
Preparation for Dynamic Roles in Nagpur
The Police Commissioner underlined Nagpur’s significance as a city with social, cultural, and political prominence, home to key institutions like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters and Deekshabhoomi. He advised the sub-inspectors to approach their work with integrity, empathy, and sensitivity.
A three-day special orientation program on cybercrime, forensic science, MCOCA, MPDA, and the SIMBA system has been planned to further equip the recruits with advanced policing techniques.
Focus on Financial and Personal Well-being
Dr. Singal provided guidance on financial discipline, encouraging the sub-inspectors to plan wisely for long-term stability. He also advised them to prioritize their hobbies, sports, and fitness, emphasizing their impact on mental and physical health.
He instructed officers to document the biodata, skills, education, and achievements of each sub-inspector to better utilize their talents in future assignments.
A Memorable Start
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Patil and Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta Khedkar also addressed the recruits, sharing valuable insights for their new roles.
The PSIs expressed gratitude for the guidance, describing the session as both welcoming and inspiring. “The Commissioner’s words have set a strong foundation for our careers,” one recruit remarked.
