Nagpur: Alleging suspicious conduct by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the Ram Jhula hit-and-run case, Janata Foundation President Zeeshan Siddiqui announced plans to file a contempt petition against CID officials.
The announcement came during a press conference at the Press Club on Thursday, where Siddiqui accused the CID of shielding the prime accused, Ritika Maloo, and delaying critical actions that led to her securing bail.
Siddiqui alleged that CID officials, particularly investigating officer Nayan Alurkar, deliberately delayed filing the chargesheet for four months, allowing Maloo to secure default bail. He also criticized the CID for failing to act against Tehsil police personnel who, according to him, attempted to destroy evidence and protect the accused.
Victims’ Families Allegedly Ignored
Siddiqui pointed out that the victims’ families had earlier approached the High Court, which had strongly criticized the Tehsil police’s handling of the case and transferred the investigation to the CID. However, he claimed the CID disregarded the High Court’s directions, prompting the need for a contempt petition.
Mohammed Atique, the brother of one of the accident victims, expressed his frustration with the CID’s alleged lack of communication. He accused the department of failing to keep the victims’ families informed about the investigation’s progress.
Call for Inquiry into Political Pressure
Siddiqui also demanded an inquiry into possible political pressure influencing the investigation. He highlighted the need for accountability and urged authorities to take immediate action to ensure justice for the victims.
The petition, if filed, is expected to bring renewed focus on the conduct of the CID in handling high-profile cases and the importance of adhering to judicial directives.
