Nagpur: A tragic road accident on the Samruddhi Expressway near Hingna on Monday, January 20 claimed the life of a 67-year-old woman and left several others injured. The mishap occurred at the Vena River Bridge when a car lost control and crashed into a road divider.
The incident took place around 11:00 am, involving a Maruti Ciaz (MH 37 V 4333) traveling from Nagpur to Murtijapur. The vehicle was being driven by Rohit Lahoti (36), a resident of Chandak Layout, Washim. Passengers included his mother, Asha Lahoti (67), wife Tilak Lahoti (32), brother Roshan Lahoti (35), and relatives Dinesh Malani (38) and Sunita Malani (33).
According to the police, Rohit was driving at a high speed and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the divider near the Vena River Bridge on the expressway. The impact left the car severely damaged and all passengers injured.
Eyewitnesses reported the incident to Hingna Police, who, along with local authorities, transported the victims to AIIMS Nagpur. Doctors declared Asha Lahoti dead on arrival, while the others are receiving treatment for their injuries.
Based on a complaint lodged by Vitthal Rathi, a relative of the victims, Hingna Police have registered a case against the driver, Rohit Lahoti, under Sections 106(1), 281, and 125(b) of the BNS and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The tragic accident has once again raised concerns about speeding and road safety on the Samruddhi Expressway, which has seen multiple accidents since its launch. Police have urged motorists to drive responsibly to prevent such incidents.
