Nagpur: The ongoing Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections presented a host of challenges for voters in Nagpur, with chilly November weather marking a stark contrast to the scorching summer conditions during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. Despite the cooler climate, voters encountered multiple issues that disrupted the polling process.

Several citizens reported difficulties locating their names on the voter list, with complaints of names missing altogether while deceased individuals’ names remained on the rolls. These errors led to frustration among voters, many of whom struggled to identify their designated polling booths.

Technical glitches added to the woes as reports of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) malfunctions emerged from several polling stations across the district. This disrupted the voting process and caused delays, inconveniencing voters who braved long queues.

Nagpur’s voter turnout has been a topic of concern, and whether the city will surpass its previous records remains uncertain. By 1 p.m., only around 30% of eligible voters had exercised their franchise in the district.

The logistical and technical challenges raised questions about the preparedness for the elections, as many voters expressed disappointment over the experience. While efforts to ensure inclusivity, such as wheelchair availability for differently-abled voters, were praised, the overall process faced criticism for the recurring lapses.

The final voter turnout figures and their impact on the elections remain to be seen as polling progresses.
