Nagpur: An unidentified thief allegedly covered the CCTV cameras with cloth before breaking into an electrical company on Hingna Road and stealing electrical wires worth around ₹60,000, the MIDC Hingna police said.

The incident was reported at Harshal Electrical, located near MIDC Chowk on Hingna Road. The company’s owner, Harshal Prakash, had locked the premises at around 7 pm on August 8 and left for home.

The company was opened the following morning at around 10 am, and the workers began their routine work. However, at around 5 pm, company manager Omkar Bhandekar informed the owner that the CCTV cameras installed on the premises had been covered with cloth.

After receiving the information, the owner reached the company and inspected the premises. He discovered that several bundles of electrical cables had been stolen.

According to the complaint, the unidentified accused allegedly broke open the tin shed of the company, entered the premises and escaped with electrical wires.

The stolen material included two bundles of 6-mm electrical wire measuring 180 metres each, valued at ₹20,000; one 100-metre bundle of 10-mm electrical wire worth ₹10,000; and one 100-metre bundle of 25-mm electrical wire worth ₹30,000. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at ₹60,000.

The MIDC Hingna police have registered a case against an unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions mentioned in the complaint.

Police are examining the CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the burglar. The manner in which the cameras were allegedly covered with cloth indicates that the accused may have taken precautions to avoid being captured on camera.
