Nagpur: A 26-year-old man allegedly assaulted his 22-year-old female cousin, tore her clothes and threatened to kill her with a knife after marrying another woman, in Nagpur’s MIDC-Hingna area, police said.
The MIDC Hingna police registered a case following a complaint by the 22-year-old woman. The accused, whose identity is being withheld to protect the privacy of the victim, is a resident of Waghumri in Hingna taluka, Nagpur district. The woman is also originally from the Nagpur district and is currently residing in the MIDC-Hingna area.
According to the complaint, the accused is the son of the complainant’s paternal maternal uncle, and the two knew each other. They had allegedly been in a relationship in the past. However, the accused married another woman in May this year, following which the complainant stopped maintaining any relationship with him.
The woman alleged that even after his marriage, the accused repeatedly insisted that she speak to him and allegedly followed her on several occasions.
According to the FIR, on August 10, while the woman was sleeping in her room, the accused allegedly entered the room and questioned her about why she was not speaking to him. He allegedly abused her and assaulted her with his hands.
The woman further alleged that the accused then grabbed her hand with an improper intention, tore her clothes and threatened her with a knife, warning that he would kill her.
Based on her complaint, the MIDC Hingna police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) cited in the complaint, including sections relating to assault, criminal intimidation, trespass and outraging the modesty of a woman.
Police are investigating the allegations and further action is underway.
