Nagpur: After 2017, Nagpur is once again gearing up for a major civic battle, with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections scheduled for January 15, 2026. Along with the announcement of elections in 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force, prompting authorities to impose strict regulations, especially in view of upcoming New Year celebrations.
With New Year’s Eve parties around the corner, the administration has tightened checks on the illegal sale and consumption of liquor. Officials have clarified that alcohol consumption will be permitted only at licensed premises. Individuals intending to consume liquor at private gatherings must obtain an online liquor permit. Strict action has been warned against those found violating the rules during the festive period, as enforcement agencies remain on high alert.
The election process for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, along with other municipal bodies in the state, has formally begun. As per the announced schedule, the filing of nomination forms will start on December 23 and continue until December 30. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on December 31, while January 2 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Election symbols will be allotted on January 3.
Polling for the civic elections will be held on January 15, followed by the counting of votes on January 16.
Authorities have reiterated that with the Model Code of Conduct in effect, no new announcements, policy decisions, or rule violations will be tolerated. The MCC applies to all candidates and political parties, ensuring a level playing field during the election period.
While candidates are expected to focus on planning and campaigning within the prescribed norms, voters have been urged to stay informed and aware. With local elections centring on local issues, officials have stressed that Nagpur’s future lies in the hands of its electorate.
Citizens have been appealed to celebrate New Year responsibly, follow the law, and actively participate in the democratic process by exercising their right to vote wisely.
