Nagpur: The Mankapur Police have registered a case against a youth for possessing and selling banned nylon manja, which poses a serious threat to public safety and wildlife.
On December 15, 2025, around 5.40 pm, a police patrol team received a tip-off about illegal nylon manja sales near Tower Line, Mahakali Nagar. Acting on the information, police conducted a raid in the presence of panch witnesses.
The accused was identified as Sagar Pradeep Shahu (23), a resident of Mahakali Nagar, Gorewada. During the search, police recovered four rolls of banned mono-filament nylon manja from a green sack in his possession. An additional 14 rolls were found concealed in a gunny bag hidden in nearby bushes.
In total, 18 rolls of nylon manja worth ₹14,400 were seized. During interrogation, the accused claimed that he procured the banned material from an associate named Chetan, who is now being traced.
A case has been registered at Mankapur Police Station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. Further investigation is underway.
The action was carried out under the supervision of senior officers and by the Mankapur Police investigation team.
