Nagpur: A 42-year-old man allegedly suffered a fractured rib after two unidentified men travelling in a Maruti WagonR assaulted him following a dispute at a traffic signal in Nagpur’s Pratap Nagar area on Sunday night.
According to the Pratap Nagar police, the incident occurred around 8.30 pm on August 16 near the Jaitala Bazar Chowk signal on the road towards Rai Sabhagruh.
The complainant, Pendam (42), was travelling on his motorcycle along with his two daughters, aged 14 and 18, when he stopped at the red signal while heading towards his niece’s house.
According to the complaint, a Maruti WagonR (MH-49-AS-4787) stopped at the signal behind him and its driver allegedly began honking repeatedly. Pendam reportedly gestured to the driver to wait.
When the signal turned green, the WagonR driver allegedly stopped his car alongside Pendam’s motorcycle and questioned him about not giving way.
The driver and another male passenger allegedly got out of the vehicle and began abusing Pendam. The two men then allegedly assaulted him with fists and kicks, striking him on the back and ribs.
One of Pendam’s daughters reportedly intervened to stop the assault, following which the two men allegedly slapped her.
Pendam was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment, where doctors found that he had suffered a fracture to his left rib.
Based on Pendam’s complaint, the Pratap Nagar police registered a case against the two unidentified men and a woman travelling in the WagonR. Police are attempting to identify the accused and ascertain the circumstances leading to the road-rage incident.
