Nagpur: In a crackdown on alleged illegal bovine meat trade, New Kamptee police, revenue authorities and the Kamptee Municipal Council jointly demolished an unauthorised shop allegedly being used for the sale of bovine meat on Monday.
The action was initiated by New Kamptee Police Station Inspector Mahesh Andhale following complaints that an illegal structure had been erected along a wall near the Government Veterinary Hospital and was allegedly being used for selling bovine meat.
According to police, the structure was allegedly operated by Rashid Kamal and Shahbaz Kamal, both residents of Bunkar Colony. Two cases related to the alleged sale of bovine meat have already been registered against them at New Kamptee police station.
Police said the shop had been constructed by encroaching upon government land. After receiving complaints, the New Kamptee police approached Tahsildar Ganesh Jagtap and sought action to remove the alleged encroachment.
Following the request, a joint team comprising officials from the Kamptee tehsil administration, Kamptee Municipal Council and New Kamptee police reached the spot and demolished the unauthorised structure.
The action is significant as Kamptee has witnessed several cases involving alleged illegal cow slaughter and bovine meat trade. During a major crackdown last year, DCP Niketan Kadam had led an operation in which more than 200 bovines were rescued in a single day.
Police said Monday’s demolition serves as a warning against using government or public land for unlawful activities, including alleged illegal slaughter and sale of bovine meat.
PI Mahesh Andhale said illegal businesses would not be allowed to flourish within the New Kamptee police station limits. He warned that strict action would be taken against those found involved in unlawful activities and that similar unauthorised establishments would also face action.
