Nagpur: Khaperkheda Police have registered a case against four persons for allegedly stealing sand without permission in the Valni Colony area of Saoner taluka and seized a truck, two JCB machines and sand collectively worth ₹42.20 lakh.
According to the police, the incident came to light in the early hours of August 17, 2026, when a night-patrol team received information through the control room that some persons were allegedly loading sand into a truck and transporting it illegally.
Police personnel reached the spot near the Valni Colony bus stop and allegedly found an Ashok Leyland truck (MH 40 DA 7873) with sand loaded in it. A JCB machine was also found parked alongside the road.
When the truck driver was questioned about the royalty permit for the sand, he allegedly admitted that he did not possess one. Police subsequently took the truck and a JCB into custody. The registration number of the JCB was reportedly partially erased/tampered with.
The seized property includes an Ashok Leyland truck valued at approximately ₹30 lakh, a yellow JCB valued at ₹12 lakh, and around four brass of sand worth ₹20,000, taking the total value of the seized material to ₹42.20 lakh.
Police have named Vicky Prakash Meshram (25), a resident of Bina Sangam in Kamptee, along with the owner of the truck, the driver of a yellow JCB bearing a partially tampered registration number, and the owner of another yellow JCB with an allegedly tampered registration number.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966. Police are conducting further investigation to identify and trace the absconding JCB driver and owner.
