NIT Unveils ₹1,507.79 Crore Budget for 2025-26: Focus on Infrastructure and Development in Nagpur

Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) presented its budget for the financial year 2025-26 during a meeting held at its headquarters on Tuesday, March 11. The session was chaired by NIT President and NMC Commissioner Sanjay Meena (IAS), along with trustees Sandeep Itkelwar, Town Planning Department’s Deputy Director Vijay Shende, Superintendent Engineer Prashant Bhandarkar, Executive Officer Avinash Badge, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Vilin Khadse, Public Relations Officer Avinash Gandhe, and Branch Officer Rajesh Kathawate.


Key Highlights of the Budget


The NIT’s total budget for 2025-26 is projected at ₹₹1,507.79 crore, including the opening balance. The budget comprises:

₹975.17 crore in capital receipts

₹209.91 crore in revenue receipts

₹70.65 crore in advance deposits and reserves


The estimated expenditure for the year is set at ₹1,405.13 crore, allocated as follows:


₹1,164.98 crore for capital works

₹148 crore for revenue expenses

₹92.15 crore for advance deposits and reserves


Major Development Projects for 2025-26


1. Housing Projects: ₹10 crore has been allocated for residential projects under NIT funding. Additionally, ₹80 crore is expected through lease rents on plots and shops, while ₹50 crore is designated for the development fund.


2. Gunthewari Development Scheme: ₹60 crore is anticipated for development under the Maharashtra Gunthewari Development scheme, with ₹205 crore set aside for providing basic amenities in 572, 1,900, and new layouts.


3. Market and Cultural Complexes: Revenue of ₹30 crore is projected from the Gokulpeth MarketArshivard Nagar, and other commercial and cultural complexes.


4. Infrastructure Development: ₹70 crore is allocated for road construction, including asphalt and cement roads under the NIT fund.


5. Dalit and Non-Dalit Development Plans:₹791.26 crore has been earmarked for development under the Dalit Vasti YojanaNon-Dalit Vasti Improvement SchemeMLA fundsMP funds, and other government initiatives.


6. Civic Amenities: ₹55 crore has been set aside for providing essential facilities in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) areas through special government grants.


Proposed Projects for 2025-26


Gokulpeth MarketArshivard Nagar, and Ambazari Complex will undergo major development.


• ₹150 crore has been allocated for integrated sports ground development, including a Sports Park.


• Construction of a hospital in Wathodais currently underway.


• A swimming pool worth ₹20 crore is planned in East Nagpur.


• ₹15 crore has been allocated for the Ahuja Nagar Sports Complex.


Government-Funded Projects:


Significant government-backed projects include:

• Development of Tekdi Ganesh Templeas a pilgrimage site.


• Construction of a 300-bed hospitalwith modern facilities in Wathoda.


• Establishment of a 7-story administrative building and 12-story training institute for the Mahajyoti organization in Sitabuldi.


• Development of Tirle Kunbi Bhavanand Khaire Kunbi Bhavan.


• Construction of a Kids Sports Complexin Harpur.


• Development of the Gond Raja Bakht Buland Shah Memorial.


• Establishment of a Warakari Bhavan.


• Construction of a Chhatrapati Sambhaji

Maharaj Sports Complex and auditorium.


• Development of the Sant Savta Maharaj Cultural Bhavan and OBC Bhavan.


• Establishment of the Shivshrushti Project, showcasing significant events from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life.


• Preservation and conservation of Shyam Hotelin Sitabuldi, associated with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.


• Construction of an E-Library in East Nagpur.


• Establishment of a hospital in Indora.


• Development of a swimming poolin Mahalaxmi Nagar, Bidipeth.


• Creation of a multi-level car parking facility in South Nagpur.


• Development of a flower market near Ganeshpeth Bus Stand.


• Establishment of a Science Centre in Nagpur.


With a significant budget allocation aimed at improving infrastructure, public amenities, and cultural heritage, NIT’s 2025-26 budget emphasizes holistic development across Nagpur.
