New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu on Thursday clarified that the government has no proposal to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), dismissing reports suggesting otherwise as false and misleading.
The minister said claims that the government is planning to mix ethanol with ATF are "completely false and irresponsible", adding that spreading misinformation about aviation safety creates unnecessary concern among air travellers.
Naidu also clarified that ethanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are entirely different fuels and should not be confused.
He explained that SAF is an internationally certified aviation fuel recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is already being adopted by airlines worldwide. According to the minister, SAF undergoes rigorous testing and complies with strict global safety standards before it is approved for use in commercial aviation.
The clarification comes amid speculation on social media regarding the possible use of ethanol in aircraft fuel. The government has reiterated that no such proposal exists and that India's aviation fuel policy remains aligned with internationally accepted safety and certification standards.
The minister urged people to rely on verified information and avoid circulating unsubstantiated claims related to aviation safety, stressing that misinformation can create unnecessary panic among passengers and the public.
