Nagpur: In two separate anti-narcotics operations, the Nagpur Crime Branch seized 85.110 grams of Mephedrone (MD) worth ₹8.51 lakh from the Lakadganj and Imamwada police station limits. The combined value of the seized drugs, vehicles, mobile phones and cash is ₹11.52 lakh.
In the first operation, the Anti-Narcotics Squad raided an area near Tajuddin Baba Dargah Galli, Galaxy Gym, Cement Road, Old Mangalwari, under the Lakadganj police station limits between 2:50 am and 4:50 am on August 6.
Police arrested Mohammad Sohel Abdul Gaffar Shaikh (29), a resident of Killa Road near Mata Mandir, Mahal, after recovering 15 grams of MD-like powder worth ₹1.50 lakh from his possession. The team also seized a mobile phone worth ₹10,000 and a Suzuki Burgman scooter valued at ₹1.20 lakh, taking the total seizure in the case to ₹2.80 lakh.
Police have also named Mohammad Naushad Imran Malik (25), a resident of Deep Nagar, Bhandewadi, as a wanted accused. According to police, he is a known offender with previous NDPS cases registered against him. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act at Lakadganj Police Station.
In the second operation, conducted by Crime Branch Unit 4 in the Imamwada police station limits on the night of August 5, officers raided an area behind Nagulwar Bhavan in Siraspeth.
Police arrested Lucky Ramdas Manpiya (22), a resident of Sleeper Colony near Hanuman Mandir, Siraspeth, and apprehended a juvenile in conflict with law. The juvenile was later handed over to his father after completing the legal formalities.
The raid resulted in the seizure of 70.110 grams of MD (Mephedrone) worth ₹7.01 lakh, three mobile phones worth ₹95,000, a Suzuki Access two-wheeler valued at ₹70,000, and ₹6,000 in cash, with the total seizure amounting to ₹8.72 lakh.
Police have also declared Bobby Malik, a resident of Mahal, as a wanted accused in the Imamwada case.
Separate offences have been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway. The Nagpur Crime Branch said the coordinated operations are part of its sustained drive against the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances in the city.
