Nagpur: Fresh controversy has surfaced in the suicide case of a 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh after her suicide note, submitted to police by family members, was reportedly found in the drawer of the investigating officer instead of being attached to the case records.

Akanksha alias Sneha Krishnakumar Chaturvedi, a resident of Mauganj district in Madhya Pradesh, died by suicide on May 20 at her residence in Nagpur’s Ajay Nagar under Ambazari police station limits. A bright student preparing for NEET at a reputed coaching institute, Sneha was reportedly distressed by the alleged NEET paper leak controversy and the possibility of a re-examination despite performing well in the test.

Initially, police registered an accidental death case as no suicide note was found. However, her father later discovered a handwritten note among her belongings and submitted it to police on June 1. In the note, Sneha reportedly wrote that she lacked the courage to appear for the examination again and apologised to her parents.

The case took a new turn when the note was allegedly found in the drawer of the investigating officer, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), who had reportedly kept it there before proceeding on leave.

Additional Commissioner of Police Vinita S has ordered a detailed inquiry into both the suicide and the handling of the note. A departmental probe is underway, and disciplinary action against the concerned ASI is expected shortly if lapses are established.
