Nagpur: A sensational case has emerged from the Amma Ki Dargah area in Old Kamptee, where six individuals, including the dargah's administrator and his son, have been booked on allegations of sexual exploitation, attempted murder, and attempted forced religious conversion. Police have registered cases at Kanhan and Kamptee police stations and have so far arrested three accused, while three others remain absconding.
The case came to light after a young woman from West Bengal lodged a complaint detailing the alleged abuse she suffered during her stay in Nagpur.
Victim Alleges Sexual Abuse and Coercion
According to police officials, the complainant, a resident of West Bengal, had visited Amma Dargah in Old Kamptee to attend the annual Urs festival, a religious gathering held at the shrine.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that dargah administrator Taji Tanviruddin, his son Taji Mustafiuddin, Tejas Khobragade, and several associates subjected her to various forms of harassment and pressure. She further accused them of sexual exploitation, physical assault, and an attempt to force her to convert her religion.
The complainant claimed that she was taken to a room on the night of June 18, where she was allegedly assaulted with objects including a bat, rolling pin, and slippers. She alleged that she was pressured to recite religious verses and wear a burqa against her will.
Allegations of Threats and Exploitation
In her statement, the woman alleged that the accused persistently targeted her and threatened her life. She also claimed that the accused operated a farmhouse where young women were allegedly taken and forced into illegal activities.
The allegations are currently under investigation, and police have not publicly confirmed these specific claims.
Woman Escaped to Kolkata, Complaint Triggered Investigation
According to investigators, the woman managed to escape the alleged abuse and returned to Kolkata. After receiving medical treatment at a private hospital, she filed a written complaint with local police.
Initially, Dum Dum Police in Kolkata conducted a preliminary inquiry. Considering the jurisdiction and seriousness of the allegations, the case was subsequently transferred to Kanhan and Kamptee police in Nagpur for further investigation.
Three Arrested, Search On for Remaining Accused
Acting swiftly after receiving the complaint, police arrested three key accused identified as Taji Tanviruddin, Taji Mustafiuddin, and Tejas Khobragade.
The FIR also names Baba Taji Janvekhan, Taji Mustafakhan Beg, Bashara Fatima Taji, and Malla Dhurve. Authorities said efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the remaining accused.
A Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) is currently leading the investigation. Police officials stated that a detailed probe is in progress to verify all allegations and determine the full extent of the case.
