Nagpur: In a major anti-drug operation under Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal’s “Operation Thunder – Let Us Unite to Build a Drug-Free Society” campaign, Lakadganj Police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force jointly arrested a 20-year-old man for possessing MD (Mephedrone) powder intended for sale.
Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a joint operation between 4.40 am and 5.55 am on June 5 near Quality Wine Shop at Telephone Exchange Square on Central Avenue Road under Lakadganj police station limits. The suspect was identified as Asad Ashfaq Sheikh (20), a resident of Hasanbagh, Nagpur.
During a search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered 30.26 grams of MD powder concealed in a zip-lock pouch inside his trouser pocket. The team also seized a mobile phone and cash amounting to Rs 3,000.
The total value of the seized contraband and other items has been estimated at Rs 3.53 lakh. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was allegedly carrying the narcotic substance for sale and personal financial gain.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Lakadganj Police Station. He has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Vinita Sahu, DCP Rahul Madne, and ACP Shivprasad Parwe.
