Nagpur Woman Alleges Forced Religious Conversion by Husband More Than a Decade After Marriage

Nagpur: A 45-year-old woman from Nagpur has accused her husband of forcibly converting her to Islam more than a decade after their marriage. Acting on her complaint, the Shantinagar Police have registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation.


According to police sources, the woman had entered into a second marriage with the accused, a resident of Shantinagar. She has a daughter from her first marriage. The woman, who resides in Narendra Nagar, reportedly came in contact with the accused several years ago, following which the two got married.


The couple has a 10-year-old son and had been living together at their residence in Narendra Nagar.


Police said that after a recent domestic dispute, the woman approached the Shantinagar Police Station and lodged a complaint alleging that her husband had compelled her to convert to Islam against her will.


Based on her statement, Shantinagar Police have registered an offence against the accused under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).


Further investigation into the allegations is underway.
