Nagpur: In a bid to ensure the safety of schoolchildren, the Nagpur Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have launched a special enforcement drive against vehicles illegally transporting students and violating transport regulations in the city.

According to an official press note issued on March 13, the joint campaign began on March 10, 2026, targeting vehicles ferrying school students without proper authorisation or failing to comply with mandatory safety norms. The initiative aims to prevent unauthorised and unsafe transport arrangements for schoolchildren.

During the drive, enforcement teams conducted checks on vehicles transporting students near educational institutions and major routes. Two vehicles carrying students of Monday High School in Ramdaspeth and one vehicle transporting students of Paloti High School on Gorewada Ring Road were found violating transport rules. Action was taken against the vehicles and they were seized and deposited at the Regional Transport Office.

Officials said that during the special campaign, a total of 101 vehicles were inspected. Out of these, four vehicles were seized under Section 66/192 of the Motor Vehicles Act for operating without a valid permit for transporting students. Additionally, 21 vehicles were penalised for violating various traffic and transport regulations.

Authorities stated that private vehicles are often illegally used to ferry schoolchildren without necessary permits or safety compliance, posing a serious risk to students.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lohit Matani and officials from the Regional Transport Office have appealed to citizens, school managements and principals to report any illegal or unsafe transportation of school students to the Traffic Department or RTO.

Parents have also been urged to ensure that their children travel only in authorised school transport vehicles that comply with safety norms.

Through the press note, officials also requested the media to widely publicise the enforcement drive in order to spread awareness and support ongoing road safety campaigns aimed at protecting schoolchildren.
