Nagpur: Old Kamptee Police busted an illegal gambling den operating in an open area near Khaparkheda Road and arrested four persons involved in betting with playing cards.
According to police sources, the action was carried out on March 12 between 8:25 pm and 9:30 pm after the police received specific information about gambling activities taking place in a field area near a hospital on Khaparkheda Road under the jurisdiction of Old Kamptee Police Station.
During the raid, police found four persons gambling with playing cards and placing bets with cash. The accused have been identified as Yogesh Dinesh Bhandarkar (39), a resident of Masurkar Chowk, Ganga Jamuna, Itwair, Gopal alias Golu Gaurishankar Verma (36), a resident of Sonar Oli, Kamptee, Prashant Keshkumar Verma (42) from Kandri, Kanhan and Kailash Kisanrao Donagre (47) from Vittabhatti Square were caught playing cards for money.
The accused were taken into custody and police seized cash worth ₹38,040, three mobile phones, playing cards and other materials used for gambling. The total value of the seized property is estimated to be ₹61,440.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police officials stated that such operations will continue as part of efforts to curb illegal gambling activities in the area.
