Nagpur: In a major action against illegal animal slaughter, the Pachpaoli Police rescued seven cows and arrested one person for allegedly keeping the animals for illegal slaughter.
According to police officials, the action took place early on March 13 between 6:50 am and 8:40 am during a patrol in the Pachpaoli police station limits.
Police received information that several cows were being kept in a shed behind a residential complex in Tekanaka area under suspicious circumstances.
Acting on the tip-off, the police team reached the spot and found seven cows tied in a confined space without proper food or water, allegedly for illegal slaughter.
The accused was taken into custody and seven cows along with nylon ropes were seized. The total value of the seized animals and materials is estimated to be ₹1.05 lakh.
The rescued animals were later shifted to a cow shelter (Gaurakshan Kendra) in Nagpur.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and further investigation is in progress.
