Nagpur: In a noteworthy incident, ticket-checking staff aboard the Geetanjali Express showcased commendable alertness and diligence, leading to the seizure of 2 kilos of Ganja from a passenger here, on Wednesday.
The railway employees responsible for the discovery, Ajay Rahate and Satish Ghorpade, both Deputy Chief Ticket Inspectors from Nagpur, intercepted the passenger during routine checks on train no. 12860, the Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, on November 13, 2024.
The detection followed a directive issued by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Dilip Singh, emphasizing that Train Ticket Examiners (TTE) should remain vigilant not only in ticket checking but also in addressing passenger complaints and monitoring unauthorized vendors and other irregularities to ensure passenger comfort and security on trains passing through the division.
During the inspection, Rahate and Ghorpade noticed the passenger's suspicious behavior. A thorough search revealed that the individual was carrying 2 kilos of cannabis, concealed with a belt-like strap around his abdomen. The suspect was promptly detained and handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for further legal proceedings.
