Nagpur: A reunion of nine police personnel from the 2013 recruitment batch turned tragic after a 38-year-old Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable died following a head injury while diving into a swimming pool at a farmhouse in Kuhi taluka.

The deceased was identified as Sachin Ghanshyam Aware (38), a resident of Gayatri Nagar, Sachin Layout, Zingabai Takli, Mankapur. He was attached to the Railway Police.

According to Kuhi police, Aware and eight of his batchmates had travelled to Bal Giri Farmhouse in Sonegaon area of Kuhi after attending Ganesh idol immersion celebrations on Tuesday. The group had reportedly been organising an annual get-together to catch up with each other.

The friends arrived at the farmhouse in three cars and prepared food before gathering around the swimming pool. At around 1.30 am to 1.45 am on Wednesday, Aware reportedly attempted to dive into the pool.

However, he landed head-first and hit the pool tiles with considerable force before falling into the water. He subsequently drowned. His friends pulled him out and alerted the Kuhi police.

Head constables Prashant Khadatkar and Haridas Chacherkar reached the farmhouse and began the investigation. Police have registered a case and are conducting further inquiries.

The annual gathering, intended to celebrate the bond among the 2013 batchmates, ended in tragedy, with Aware’s sudden death leaving his friends and fellow police personnel shocked.
