Nagpur: A 31-year-old woman died after the car in which she was travelling with her husband and five-year-old son overturned into a drain near Rani Kothi after visarjan on the Amravati-Nagpur Road in Belatrodi area late Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sarika Nilesh Manwani (31). Her five-year-old son, Aamir Manwani, sustained minor injuries, while the car driver, Nilesh Chanduram Manwani (40), suffered bruises in the accident.
According to Belatrodi police, the incident occurred around 11.30 pm on September 28 near Rani Kothi. Sarika, her son and Nilesh were travelling towards Nagpur in an i10 car (MH 49 CD 8875) after attending a Ganpati immersion programme at the complainant’s residence.
Police said the accused driver allegedly drove the car at high speed and in a negligent manner. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and fall into a drain near Rani Kothi.
Sarika sustained serious injuries in the accident and was shifted to AIIMS Nagpur for treatment. She later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Her son suffered minor injuries, while Nilesh sustained a blunt injury to his hand.
Belatrodi police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 281 and 106(1), along with applicable provisions of the earlier law. Further investigation is underway.
