Nagpur: Nagpur Police have prepared a comprehensive security plan for Navratri and the 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Day, with heightened security arrangements planned at Deekshabhoomi, Dragon Palace Temple, Naglok, Garba venues, religious places and other crowded areas across the city.
Navratri celebrations will begin on October 11, while the 70th Dhammachakra Pravartan Day will be observed on October 20, coinciding with Vijayadashami. A coordination and security review meeting was held at Police Bhavan on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil.
Senior officials from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, district administration, Nagpur Improvement Trust, MSEDCL, Food and Drug Administration and police department, along with representatives of major memorial committees and Navratri mandals, attended the meeting.
Security at Deekshabhoomi, Dragon Palace and Naglok
The meeting focused on security and crowd management for the large number of Buddhist followers expected to visit Deekshabhoomi, Dragon Palace Temple and Naglok from across India and abroad for Dhammachakra Pravartan Day.
Nangre Patil directed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for traffic management, parking, drinking water, sanitation, uninterrupted power supply, ambulances and emergency medical services.
Quick Response Teams will remain on alert to respond to emergencies during the celebrations.
CCTV surveillance at Garba, Dandiya venues
Police will maintain heightened security at sensitive and highly sensitive locations, major junctions, religious places and crowded markets during the festive period.
Plainclothes police personnel will be deployed at Garba and Dandiya venues, public pandals and idol immersion routes, particularly to ensure the safety of women and girls.
CCTV cameras will provide round-the-clock surveillance at Garba venues and other crowded locations.
The Cyber Cell will monitor social media platforms for misleading or provocative posts that could disturb communal harmony. Police said strict legal action would be initiated against those found spreading such content.
Police, civic agencies asked to coordinate
Police Commissioner Nangre Patil directed the NMC, NIT, MSEDCL, revenue authorities and police machinery to maintain real-time coordination during the festivals.
He appealed to citizens to celebrate Navratri and Dhammachakra Pravartan Day peacefully while maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood. Citizens were also urged to immediately inform police about any suspicious activity.
Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioners of Police Vasant Pardeshi and Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police and representatives of Deekshabhoomi, Dragon Palace, Naglok and various Navratri mandals attended the meeting.
