Nagpur: The District Court-08, Nagpur, has directed Meta to restore the Instagram account of a trader by 5 pm on October 1, while allowing the company to operate the account until October 16 subject to compliance with Instagram’s community guidelines.

District Judge S.G. Borlepwar passed the order on September 30 in Commercial Suit No. 09 of 2026 filed by M/s Thoughtsmagictrading Commercial Pvt Ltd and another against Ashok Kumar/Jhon Doe and Meta.

The court’s direction came while hearing an interim relief application filed by the plaintiffs seeking restoration of their Instagram account.

According to the order, Meta had stated in its preliminary reply that the plaintiffs’ account had breached its community guidelines. Meta also claimed that 530 users had reported the account, alleging that harm was being caused through it. The court was informed that an inquiry/investigation into these reports was still pending as of September 28.

The plaintiffs, meanwhile, submitted that the continued non-operation of the account was causing them financial losses and other difficulties. They also gave an undertaking that they would not breach Meta’s community guidelines if the account was restored and would inform Meta if any third party interfered with or misused the account.

Judge Borlepwar directed restoration without entering into the merits of the dispute.

The court clarified that the interim relief application would be considered after hearing both sides on Meta’s application seeking permission to file a supplementary reply.
