Nagpur: In a heartwarming act of honesty and vigilance, Rohan Shyamrao Gaikwad, a security guard posted at Cotton Market Metro Station, was honoured by Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal for his exemplary integrity after he returned a bag containing valuables worth ₹3.5 lakh to its rightful owner.

The incident took place on June 7, 2025, when Gaikwad noticed an unclaimed bag at the metro station during his duty hours. Without delay, he informed Station Controller Amol Meshram and secured the bag. Upon inspection, it was found to contain expensive items and important documents.

Using the RC book of a vehicle found inside the bag, officials traced the owner, Rohit Mallani, and returned the bag along with all its contents intact.

Gaikwad’s honest action not only saved a passenger’s valuable belongings but also reinforced public faith in Nagpur Metro authorities and the Nagpur Police Department.

Recognizing his act of integrity, humanity, and social responsibility, Police Commissioner Dr. Singhal invited Rohan Gaikwad to his office on July 12, 2025, at 5:00 PM, and presented him with a certificate of appreciation.

Dr. Singhal commended Gaikwad’s alertness, dedication, and honesty, describing him as a role model for society. He emphasized that responsible and conscientious citizens like Gaikwad are the real key to a secure and prosperous society.

In a rare gesture, the Police Commissioner also extended appreciation to Gaikwad’s family, acknowledging the support of his wife Karuna Gaikwad, mother Maya Gaikwad, and son Saksham. He praised them with heartfelt words and expressed gratitude for the values they’ve nurtured.

This recognition, officials said, is more than just praise for a single incident — it stands as a beacon of inspiration for every citizen who believes in humanity, integrity, and civic responsibility in Nagpur city.
