Nagpur: Nagpur Mayor Nita Thakare on Friday appealed to citizens to remain committed to the vision of a clean, beautiful and green Nagpur to ensure the sustainable development of the city.
She was addressing the Maharashtra Day celebration organised by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) at the civic headquarters lawn on May 1.
Mayor Pays Tribute to Martyrs, Extends Labour Day Wishes
At the start of the programme, Mayor Nita Thakare unfurled the national flag and saluted the Tricolour. During her address, she paid tribute to all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the formation of Maharashtra. She also extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
Nagpur’s Identity as Maharashtra’s Second Capital Highlighted
Speaking at the event, the Mayor said Maharashtra has earned a unique identity globally because of the bravery and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, making every citizen proud of the state’s heritage.
She further noted that Maharashtra has inherited the progressive ideology of Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
Referring to Nagpur, she said the city, known as the second capital of Maharashtra, also has a distinct identity and is progressing through multiple stages of development.
She added that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, whose political journey began in Nagpur, has envisioned several developmental initiatives for the city, which is a matter of pride for residents.

The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, Leader of House Narendra (Balya) Borkar, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin, Dharampeth Zone Chairperson Dhanashree Deshpande, Hanuman Nagar Zone Chairperson Jyoti Devghare, Satranjipura Zone Chairperson Abhiruchi Rajgire, corporators and several senior civic officials.
Among those present were Additional Commissioner Ankit, officiating Additional Commissioner Milind Meshram, Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Chief Finance and Accounts Officer Sadashiv Shelke, Medical Health Officer Dr Deepak Selokar, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Tree Officer Amol Chaurpagar, and other officials.
Civic Honour Ceremony Held
Municipal Commissioner Dr Vipin welcomed Mayor Nita Thakare by presenting her with the ceremonial civic stole and a Tulsi plant. Additional Commissioner Ankit welcomed Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, while Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar Meshram felicitated dignitaries present on the dais.
