Nagpur Crime Branch Solves Chain Snatching Case Within 24 Hours, Accused Arrested with Stolen Mangalsutra

Nagpur: The Anti-Chain Snatching Squad of the Nagpur Crime Branch successfully solved a chain snatching case registered at Sadar Police Station within 24 hours and arrested the accused with stolen valuables worth Rs 2.40 lakh.


The case was registered under Crime No. 240/2026 under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The incident took place between 3.30 pm and 3.45 pm on May 19, 2026, near St. Ursula School in front of Pradeep Nursery at VCA Square in Nagpur.


Police identified the accused as Rohit Nemaji Marbate, 25, a resident of Bhawani Nagar near Avchat Hanuman Temple under Pardi Police Station limits.


According to police, the complainant woman was selling saplings at her nursery when the accused approached her pretending to purchase plants. Taking advantage of the situation, he allegedly forcefully snatched her gold mangalsutra weighing around 13 grams from her neck. During the act, the accused reportedly fell from his motorcycle before fleeing from the spot.


Acting on the complaint, the Crime Branch launched a parallel investigation using CCTV footage and technical surveillance. Based on electronic evidence and intelligence inputs, police traced the accused within 24 hours.


During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to committing the crime. Police recovered the stolen gold mangalsutra worth approximately Rs 1.50 lakh, a black Honda Unicorn motorcycle bearing registration number MH-49-BT-3924 valued at Rs 70,000 used in the crime, and a Vivo Android mobile phone worth Rs 20,000.


The total seized property is valued at around Rs 2.40 lakh.


After completing the accused’s medical examination, police handed him over to Sadar Police Station for further legal action. The Cyber Team also provided crucial assistance during the investigation.
