Nagpur: In a swift and courageous operation, officers from Beltarodi Police successfully saved a woman’s life and prevented a possible murder attempt in the Beltarodi area during the early hours of Thursday.
The incident took place around 12.05 am on May 21, 2026, when the Beltarodi Police team was conducting routine night patrolling in the Gotalpanjari area. During the patrol, the father of the accused alerted the police and informed them that his son was allegedly attacking his wife with a knife inside their flat.
Acting immediately on the information, Senior Police Inspector Mukund Kawade directed Police Sub-Inspector Narayan Ghodke and Police Constable Ritesh Gotmare to rush to the spot without delay.
Upon reaching the flat at Green City-4 in Gotalpanjari, the police found the door locked from inside. Sensing the gravity of the situation, the officers forcibly entered the house. Inside, they found accused Hrishikesh Surendra Wankhede, 22, allegedly assaulting his wife, Ashlesha Hrishikesh Wankhede, 25, with a sharp weapon.
Displaying remarkable bravery, Constable Ritesh Gotmare broke open the door, overpowered the accused and snatched the blood-stained knife from his hand before taking him into custody on the spot.
The injured woman was immediately shifted to AIIMS Hospital by a separate police team under the guidance of Senior PI Mukund Kawade. Police covered the nearly 9.3-km distance to the hospital in just 15 minutes and coordinated with doctors to ensure immediate medical treatment.
Due to the timely intervention, doctors were able to save the woman’s life. Police said her condition is currently stable.
A case has been registered under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation, including spot panchnama, collection of forensic evidence, seizure of blood samples and recording of witness statements, is underway.
Police officials highlighted that no murder case has been registered at Belatrodi Police Station during 2025 and 2026 so far, attributing it to effective night patrolling, preventive action, close monitoring of criminals and continuous coordination with citizens.
Taking note of the prompt and fearless action, the Police Commissioner of Nagpur City felicitated the officers and staff involved in the operation with commendation certificates.
The operation was carried out by Senior PI Mukund Kawade, PSI Narayan Ghodke, Constable Ritesh Gotmare and other officers and personnel of Belatrodi Police Station, reflecting the police department’s commitment towards citizens’ safety and crime prevention.
