Nagpur Crime Branch Cracks Vehicle Theft Case, Two Accused Identified

Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit No. 02 of Nagpur Police has successfully solved a vehicle theft case registered under Dhantoli Police Station limits and identified two accused involved in the crime. The police action led to the detention of one accused, while the stolen vehicle was found to have already been seized by Wardha Police in connection with another criminal case.


According to police officials, complainant Pratik Chandrashekhar Ambedkar, 26, a resident of Lalganj, Baraipura, Itwari, Nagpur, had parked his Honda Activa scooter bearing registration number MH-49-AF-3288, valued at approximately ₹30,000, in the parking area in front of the Business Algorithm shop near Yashwant Stadium under Dhantoli Police Station jurisdiction on May 1, 2026, between 11:30 am and 7:45 pm. When he returned, the scooter was found missing. Based on the complaint, Dhantoli Police registered a case against an unidentified accused under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).


During the parallel investigation, officers and staff of Crime Branch Unit No. 02 received credible information that the accused involved in vehicle theft was roaming in the Mitha Neem Dargah area under Sitabuldi Police Station limits. Acting on the tip-off, police launched a search operation and detained a suspect matching the description.


During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Raja Khan Salim Khan, 29, a resident of Motha Tajbagh, Umred Road, Sakkardara, Nagpur. On questioning regarding the vehicle theft case, he confessed to committing the crime along with his associate Sameer alias Gijya Shamim Sheikh, 22, a resident of Tekanaka, Nagpur. Police said the accused admitted that the stolen vehicle had already been seized by Wardha Police after he was arrested in a separate house-breaking case.


Following the investigation, the accused was handed over to Dhantoli Police Station for further legal action, and additional investigation in the case is underway.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Roshan Pandit. The investigation team included Senior Police Inspector Shubhangi Deshmukh, Sub-Inspector Gajanan Chambhare, and police personnel Mahendra Sadmake, Sandeep Pandey, and Vivek Shripad.
