Nagpur: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced home voting options for citizens aged 85 and above and those with over 40% disability to ensure they can exercise their voting rights. Between November 14 and 15, eligible voters across twelve assembly constituencies in Nagpur district will cast their votes from home, with a total of 3,437 registered for home voting. This includes 2,021 urban voters and 1,416 from rural constituencies.

The breakdown reveals 1,416 home voters across rural constituencies, including Katol, Savner, Hingna, Umred, Kamthi, and Ramtek, and 2,021 in urban constituencies, such as Nagpur South West, Nagpur South, Nagpur East, Nagpur Central, Nagpur West, and Nagpur North.

In Katol, 54 voters with disabilities and 345 elderly voters are registered. Similarly, Savner constituency has 27 disabled and 189 elderly voters, while Hingna includes 23 disabled and 127 elderly voters. The highest number of registered elderly voters is in Nagpur South West with 771 elderly and 36 disabled voters. Other urban constituencies also have significant numbers of eligible home voters.

Efforts to Boost Voter Participation:

To boost turnout and ensure no eligible voter is left out, the district administration is conducting awareness drives. Special provisions under the ECI allow home voting for citizens over 85 and for the differently-abled with at least 40% disability. Interested voters have been registered through Form 12-D. Authorized representatives of political parties are also permitted to observe the process, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to voting regulations.

Stringent Confidentiality Measures:

To maintain voting privacy, all home voting will be videographed. A designated team, including two officials, a micro-observer, a videographer, and official representatives of the candidates, will oversee the process. Notifications have been sent to registered voters through Booth Level Officers (BLOs). District Election Officer Dr. Vipin Itankar stated that strict instructions have been given to prevent any breach of voter confidentiality during this process.
