Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics under Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kumar Singal’s initiative “Operation Thunder – Let’s Build a Drug-Free Society”, the Ganeshpeth Police arrested two accused for possessing ganja worth ₹5.37 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team patrolling between 7.45 am and 9.45 am on October 31, 2025, intercepted a white Alto car (MP-48 CA-2179) parked near Chaudshah Wali Dargah under Ramjhula bridge. Inside the vehicle were a man and a woman who identified themselves as Narsingrao Shyamrao Deshmukh (42) of Vinoba Nagar, Betul (Madhya Pradesh) and Kiran Nilesh Deshmukh (34) of Ambedkar Nagar, Pathakheda, Betul.

A search of the car in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 17.033 kg of ganja kept in four cloth bags. The accused admitted that they were in Nagpur to sell the contraband to a buyer named Ajay Pawar of Betul, along with another accomplice Akash Bajaj, who is currently absconding.

The police seized the ganja, five mobile phones, and the car — collectively valued at ₹5.37 lakh. The accused were found in possession of the narcotics for illegal sale and personal profit. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(2), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Ganeshpeth Police Station.
