Nagpur: Acting on a tip-off, the Unit 3 of Crime Branch apprehended a history-sheeter from the Lakadganj area who was found in possession of a sharp-edged knife, violating his externment order.
The incident took place between 4 PM and 5:30 PM on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, when police officers were patrolling near Itwari Railway Station, south side, close to Sheetla Mata Mandir. They received information about a suspicious man in black-and-white clothes carrying a weapon. On reaching the location, the suspect attempted to flee but was chased and detained.
The accused was identified as Faizan Anwar Sheikh (24), a resident of Ganga-Jamuna, Lakadganj. A search of his person led to the recovery of a sharp metal knife worth approximately ₹200. Upon checking police records, it was revealed that Sheikh had been externed from Nagpur city and rural areas for six months under DCP Zone 3’s order No. 11/2024 dated November 26, 2024.
Police confirmed that the accused had returned to the city without permission and was carrying the knife with suspected criminal intent. A case was registered against him at Lakadganj Police Station under Sections 4/25 of the Arms Act, along with Sections 142 and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused was taken into custody along with the weapon, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Nisar Tamboli, Additional CP (Crime) Sanjay Patil, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil. The arrest team included PI Anil Taksande, API Madhukar Kathoke, and constables Santosh Thakur, Bhushan Bhagat, Kapil Tandekar, Jitesh Reddy, Deepak Lakde, and Pramod Deshbhratar.
