Nagpur: In a concerning trend, temples in city are increasingly becoming soft targets for thieves. After the burglary at Shri Shitalnath Digambar Jain Temple in Juni Shukrawari, another theft was reported at a Shiv temple in Gittikhadan.
According to reports, two unidentified miscreants broke into the Shiv Mandir on March 4 and stole cash and valuables. The incident has deeply hurt the sentiments of devotees, prompting them to approach Gittikhadan police with a complaint and CCTV footage of the theft.
The burglary at Shri Shitalnath Digambar Jain Temple was particularly alarming, as the thief managed to steal five silver idols, 12 thrones, one silver umbrella, and other religious materials. Additionally, around ₹2 lakh in cash was looted from the donation box. Notably, the thief selectively took only high-denomination notes, suggesting that the crime was carefully planned.
The growing pattern of temple thefts has raised serious concerns among devotees, who now demand stricter security measures at religious sites. Many believe that the lack of surveillance and proper safeguards makes temples easy targets. Authorities are urging temple managements to install CCTV cameras and strengthen security as investigations into both cases continue.
