Nagpur: Six years after its commercial debut, the Nagpur Metro has emerged as a vital mode of transport, serving over 8.83 crore commuters since its launch on March 7, 2019.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) began operations with just five stations — Khapri, New Airport, Airport South, Airport, and Sitabuldi Interchange. Today, the network has expanded to 40.02 km, covering 38 stations across the city.
The metro system now connects key points in four directions, linking Automotive Square to Khapri Metro Station on the North-South corridor and Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar Metro Stationon the East-West corridor. The full-scale project was officially dedicated on December 11, 2022.
Nagpur Metro has achieved a consistent weekday ridership exceeding one lakh commuters. Notably, its highest recorded single-day ridership reached 2,20,479 on January 1, 2023, shortly after the network’s completion.
Maha Metro continues to enhance commuter convenience with features such as WhatsApp ticketing, Celebration on Wheels, and various fare benefits. The Maha Card, offering 10% discounts for regular passengers and 30% discounts for students, has gained popularity, with over one lakh cardssold to date.
Additional offerings like Daily Passes, discounts on Gazetted Holidays, and Weekend Specials have further strengthened Maha Metro’s appeal, making it an essential part of Nagpur’s public transport system.
