Nagpur: Ambazari police conducted raids at two establishments — Tamasha Lounge in Ramnagar and Saffron Café in Shivaji Nagar — for allegedly supplying banned tobacco-based hookah products to customers here, on Friday, March 7 night.
During the first raid, conducted between 9:45 pm and 10:30 pm on March 7, police apprehended two individuals — Brijesh Badri Prasad Pal (33), a resident of WCL Quarters in Saoner, and Aditya Manik Ingle (25), a resident of Ganpati Nagar, Zingabai Takli. Both were reportedly caught supplying prohibited hookah products. Police seized hookah equipment worth ₹9,880 from the premises.
In a second raid at Saffron Café the same evening between 8:45 pm and 9:30 pm, police nabbed Anshulal Jagdishprasad Vishwakarma (31), a resident near Hanuman Mandir, Gokulpeth, Ambazari. Hookah-related materials worth ₹8,980 were confiscated during this operation.
Cases have been registered against the accused under sections 4(1)(21) and 5(1)(21) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, along with the Maharashtra Amendment Act 2018 at Ambazari Police Station.
The operations were carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner of Police Nisar Tamboli, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudhir Nandanwar, and led by Senior Police Inspector Vivekanand Raut along with his team.
