Nagpur: To celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has announced a special offer for female commuters. Starting from March 1 and continuing till March 8, women can purchase the Maha Card for just ₹20 on a top-up of ₹500.
The Maha Card, launched in collaboration with State Bank of India (SBI), offers a 10% discount on metro fares for regular commuters and a 30% discount for students. Additionally, Maha Card holders can avail a 30% discount on metro fares during weekends and gazetted holidays.
Since its introduction, over 1,04,816 Maha Cards have been sold, highlighting its popularity among commuters. The card has simplified travel by enabling seamless digital transactions. Presently, nearly 50% of metro ticket payments are made digitally.
The Maha Card operates on a secure EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa, RuPay) platform and features a chip-based dual interface for both contact and contactless transactions. Commuters can easily purchase the card from any metro station and use it by tapping on the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at entry and exit points.
The AFC system ensures a transparent revenue collection process, reducing the risk of fraud or leakage. This smart card technology offers an efficient and hassle-free travel experience, eliminating the need for passengers to wait in ticket queues.
With this special offer, Maha Metro aims to encourage more women to opt for metro travel while promoting cashless and convenient transactions.
