Nagpur: Acting on routine night patrol, the Beltarodi Police apprehended a 19-year-old youth carrying a deadly weapon near Mahalaxmi Garage on Manish Nagar Road in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21.
According to police sources, around 1:50 am, a patrolling team noticed three youths behaving suspiciously near the Kaikadi Nagar road. When officers tried to question them, two of the suspects fled under the cover of darkness, while one was detained on the spot.
The detained youth identified himself as Karan Ganesh Uke (19), a resident of Changdev Nagar, near Mata Mandir, Khāmala Slum, Nagpur. Upon frisking him in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered a steel knife tucked inside his waistband.
During interrogation, Uke revealed the names of his absconding accomplices as Niraj Prabhakar Uike (25) of Changdev Nagar, Khāmala, and Shubham alias Taklya (19) of Mandwa Vasti, Subhash Nagar. Police seized a steel knife worth ₹200 and a Honda Activa (MH-31 DF-2423) valued at ₹40,000, collectively amounting to ₹40,200.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were in possession of the knife with the intention of committing a cognizable offence, thereby violating prohibitory orders. Accordingly, an offence under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, read with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, has been registered at Beltarodi Police Station.
The arrested accused has been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to trace his absconding accomplices. Further investigation is on.
