Nagpur: Diwali celebrations in Nagpur turned tense for firefighters as the city recorded 16 fire incidents on the festival, October 21, night, with seven cases reportedly caused by firecrackers. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Fire Department had a busy day responding to multiple fire calls across the city.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in any of the incidents. However, property worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the blazes. Most of the fire incidents occurred late on Tuesday night when residents were celebrating Diwali with fireworks.
Fire tenders from different fire stations were immediately dispatched to the affected areas. The firefighters’ prompt action and hours of coordinated effort helped bring all the flames under control and prevented further damage.
City officials have appealed to citizens to celebrate responsibly and follow fire safety guidelines, especially while using firecrackers during the festive season. The NMC Fire Department has also advised residents to keep buckets of water or extinguishers handy to handle any emergency.
