Nagpur: The prestigious NCC (National Cadet Corps) Headquarters in Nagpur is facing severe waterlogging issues during every monsoon season. After just the first spell of heavy rain this year, the entire premises were submerged under several feet of water, causing major inconvenience to the staff and concerns for the safety of cadets stationed there.
The root cause of the issue is being attributed to the faulty working drainage and apathy of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). According to local residents and NCC officials, the drainage system in the area has been neglected for years. Poor planning and a lack of regular cleaning of drainage lines have led to water flow being obstructed, resulting in flooding within the premises even with low rains.
A senior official from the NCC commented, “We report this issue to the municipal authorities every year, but no permanent solution has been provided. This negligence not only hampers our functioning but also poses a serious safety concern.”
Residents have also pointed out that during past developmental works, the NMC failed to properly plan the slope and drainage design, causing rainwater to flow directly into the NCC campus at Yuva Shakti Bhawan.
All eyes are now on the municipal authorities to see whether an immediate and long-term solution will finally be implemented or if the NCC Headquarters and its cadets will continue to face the same challenges for remaining rainy season and in the next monsoon.
