SSB Arrests History-Sheeter with Sword in Mankapur, Nagpur

Nagpur: In a targeted operation against criminals involved in serious offenses, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Crime Branch apprehended a 40-year-old man for illegal possession of a deadly weapon in the Mankapur police station jurisdiction on Monday, May 2 night.


The accused, identified as Abdul Wahid Qureshi, a resident of Flat No. 201, Skyline Imperial, 2nd Floor, Nanhe Layout, Mankapur, was found in possession of a steel sword valued at ₹2,000. The action was taken under Section 4, 25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.


According to the police, the SSB team was patrolling between 7:00 pm and 10:30 pm as part of a special drive to crack down on MPDA-released, wanted, absconding, and externally banned criminals as well as those possessing illegal weapons. During the patrol, Abdul Wahid was found in a suspicious manner, carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent to commit a cognizable offense.


Following his apprehension, he was subjected to a medical examination and then handed over to the Mankapur Police Station for further legal action.


Notably, police officials confirmed that Abdul Wahid is a history-sheeter currently out on bail in a MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) case.


The operation was led by PI Omprakash Sontakke and executed by HC Prakash Mathankar, Sachin; PCs Ashwin Mange, Sameer Sheikh, Kunal Masram, Kunal Bokade; and WPC Poonam Shende.
