Three Telangana Men Arrested With Over 1 Kg Ganja in Nagpur Under ‘Operation Thunder’

Nagpur: Yashodhara Nagar Police arrested three men from Telangana for allegedly possessing and transporting ganja in Nagpur. The action was carried out between 11 pm on May 28 and 1.30 am on May 29 near Tipu Sultan Chowk, Sangharsh Nagar, under Yashodhara Nagar police limits.


According to police, the detection team was patrolling the area in search of criminals when they spotted three suspicious men carrying a blue-purple coloured bag near a drain close to Plot No. 104. As police approached them, the trio allegedly attempted to flee but were chased down and detained.


The accused were identified as Senigram Rakesh Senigram Kankayya (23), a resident of Warangal, Ritesh Kaleru Raju (19) from Rangareddy district, and Bijlipur Charan Bijlipur Ramesh (25) from Secunderabad, all residents of Telangana.


During the search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered 1.130 kg of wet ganja packed in small plastic pouches inside a cloth bag. The seized contraband reportedly emitted a strong odour and contained green leaves and seeds.


During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to purchasing the ganja from a wanted accused identified as Sheikh Shahrukh, a resident of Yashodhara Nagar, Nagpur.


Police seized ganja, mobile phones and bags collectively worth Rs 35,950 from their possession. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Yashodhara Nagar Police Station. All three accused have been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the wanted supplier
