Nagpur: Panic spread in the Davlameti area under Wadi Police Station limits on Friday after an elderly couple was found dead inside their residence in New MHADA Colony. Initial suspicion of foul play triggered a police investigation, but officials later ruled out murder after a detailed inquiry.
The deceased were identified as Gangadhar Janbaji Bhongade (75) and his wife Kaushalya Gangadhar Bhongade (70), residents of Quarter No. 91 in New MHADA Colony, Davlameti.
According to police sources, Gangadhar Bhongade had retired from the Ordnance Factory a few years ago and was taking care of his bedridden wife at home. The couple’s two daughters are married and live in different parts of Nagpur.
Police said the incident initially appeared suspicious due to footprints found inside the house, leading investigators to examine the possibility of murder. However, during the probe, officers discovered that Gangadhar had allegedly slipped in the kitchen and collapsed. He was found dead there.
As he was the sole caregiver for his ailing wife, Kaushalya reportedly remained without food and water after his death and is suspected to have died due to starvation and helplessness while confined to bed.
The matter came to light when family members visited the house and found both of them lying dead. Wadi police were informed immediately and rushed to the spot.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and further investigation is underway.
